As of October 25, 2023, Microsoft Surface has made a new tier to the Microsoft Extended Hardware Service device coverage plan generally available – Microsoft Extended Hardware Service Plus.
Customers in the new tier will have access to Next Business Day (NBD) shipment of a replacement device, with Drive Retention included as part of the service.
NBD and Drive Retention are now included in Microsoft Extended Hardware Service Plus and Microsoft Complete for Business Plus programmes and can be purchased as an optional add-on for the Microsoft Extended Hardware Service and Microsoft Complete for Business programmes.
NBD is a paid-for service where a replacement Surface device will be delivered to an organisation’s premises by the next business day.
These services apply after an agent determines a replacement device is required, confirms available inventory, and submits an order for a replacement device by a standard cutoff time, predetermined by Microsoft.
The Drive Retention services lets customers retain the SSD from their device during a service event, giving them more control over your security.
For example, with the purchase of an Extended Service Plan with the optional Drive Retention add-one, customers will receive an exchange device which includes a new SSD.
There will be no fee when they return the damaged device without its original SSD.
Devices eligible for this plan include the Surface Go, Surface Laptop Go, Surface Pro devices, Surface Laptops, Surface Laptop Studios, and Surface Studios.
The upgraded protection plan provides a significant level of reassurance for businesses considering adopting a Microsoft Surface device fleet for mission-critical departments of their organisation.
